Famous Women: Hedy Lamarr

You may recognize her name as a movie star of the 1940s, for example playing Delilah in Cecile B DeMille’s Samson and Delilah.
But what you may not know is that Hedy Lamarr (born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler in Vienna in 1914) was also an inventor. Her greatest invention was a radio that was designed to change frequencies as it broadcast. Designed to prevent the Nazi’s from listening in to allied radio communications, the invention became a standard security feature for the US army for decades.
